Bars, nightclubs, bottle clubs, strip clubs and cigar lounges that make more than 51% of their profit via alcohol sales (as opposed to food sales) got some very bad news last week: They’ve been ordered to close. The order came from Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins on Friday, July 24th, who stated in a press conference that these businesses are not able to operate effectively while still adhering to COVID-related, mask-wearing mandates.

According to Jenkins, after receiving “complaints,” code compliance officers “visited topless joints several times” trying to get them to comply with the mask order, but those compliance officers were allegedly told that the clubs cannot or would not comply. Though the truth of that statement is in question, the fact remains that these businesses are currently shuttered in Dallas County.

Jenkins also urged residents to avoid in-restaurant dining and publicly asked Texas Governor Greg Abbott to end indoor restaurant dining as COVID cases have surged in the state.
