Across the U.S., businesses must adjust or adapt to coronavirus closures by offering takeout, drive-thru or curbside service.

And Don Kleinhans‘ business, 2001 Odyssey in Tampa, is no exception. After he was left empty-handed by the state of Florida when applying for Covid-19 aid, he thought of his dancers, and how they still needed to be helped, particularly if the state was going to view them as undeserving victims.

“At 2001 Odyssey we immediately agreed to conform with the Emergency Executive Order for closure of all bars & nightclubs statewide,” says Kleinhans. “Within 24 hours of locking our doors, we found that the website we were directed to for application to the state to participate in emergency funding defined our [“adult”] establishment as ‘not eligible.’ The state of Florida is mandating our closure but are not willing to assist us, so we made the decision to mirror what the Broadway shows are doing and broadcast our stage shows via live streaming on the web. This allows entertainers & DJs a method to continue some type of revenue and provide a service to our regular in-person patrons who can now watch and tip from the safety of their own homes.”

2001 Odyssey now offers live stage performance online via 2001live.com This service will be available via limited hours,Wednesday through Saturday, from 9 pm eastern to midnight. If you would like more information about this topic, please contact Don Kleinhans at 727-742-1358 or email at Don@LVNetworks.com.

When Florida adult clubs were forced to close under the Governor’s Executive Order, Oasis Cabaret in Clearwater rallied their “family” to take care of one another.

They developed a plan where staff fanned out among stores to gather goods and create care bags for dancers and staff. By working together, they gathered soups, pasta and sauce, tuna, peanut butter, bottled water, applesauce, instant potato, crackers, juices, raisins, hygiene products, toilet paper, cards, crafts for kids etc.

“Everyone is responding well,” says Erik Moon of Oasis. “Our family is appreciative of any help.”

Moon added that he is thankful for the efforts of Darlene and Fran who are shopping, and have help with putting together the packages from Rae Rae, Josie and Ambrie.

“Family sticks together in times of need,” Moon adds. “We may not be blood but we are certainly a family. I feel obligated to help people that have no way to help themselves right now. Everybody is terrified; we all want to be back to work. It’s a hard thing for a mother not to be able to provide for her child.”
