The Struts have opened for mammoth rock names, and in doing so are en route to becoming one themselves. Check their song “Body Talk” out at StripJointsMusic.com, a record pool specifically for adult club DJs!
Geth Davies, drummer for The Struts, was sitting in his room drinking a cup of tea when someone sent him a link containing an awe-inspiring moment.
It was a link to Dave Grohl—of Nirvana and Foo Fighters fame—saying The Struts was the best opening band the Foo Fighters have ever had.
“Dave and the band have been great mentors for us on the road the last eight months, but to hear and see him say that in an interview was pretty special,” Davies says. “Had a lot of friends and family sending the link afterward. We will happily take that crown!”
The Struts, who hail from Derbyshire, England (including frontman Luke Spiller, guitarist Adam Slack and bassist Jed Elliott), are no stranger to the upper echelon of stardom, having opened for the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Who, and the aforementioned Foo Fighters.
With their upcoming sophomore album set to release later this fall, The Struts wanted to maintain the identity they carved out in their first album, “Everybody Wants.”
“We all agreed we didn’t want our second album to be a completely different animal from the first—it’s definitely evolved but it’s still got that special Struts sound everybody loved from the first one,” says Davies. “It’s got some curveball tracks on there, but we are all very excited to release (the next album).”
There is usually more pressure, be it internal or external if not both, to replicate success than there is to initially create it. And so, this upcoming album has proven to be more work than their debut effort.
“We’ve been back and forth in the studio working so hard on writing new material for the album that after a while, you kind of get numb to hearing all the demos,” Davies admits. “It’s amazing what a great mix can do to a song and change your mind. Altogether, there were over 50 songs written that could have potentially got on the album, but there were a number of songs we all kept coming back to and collectively loved.”
One of those songs, “Body Talks” features the talents of Kesha. Davies says it took almost no time before fans were singing along.
“It’s already one of my favorites in the set and I feel it really connects with the audience,” says Davies. “It’s a real mover and sets the tone for the rest of the set.”
That is critical for The Struts’ Body Talks Tour, which will see the band rock back and forth across the U.S.
“We’ve got a lot of new songs to play and the show is increasing in size, new lights, new outfits, etc.,” says Davies. “We want to keep growing as a band and taking it to the next level.”
